    1. Thanks, Lynn! I was so stoked when I got their email saying they’d accepted it. In re-reading it, I think I incorporated my surfing mishap into the part where the lady’s caught in a riptide. 😨😂

Thanks again for reading and the comment. Enjoy the rest of your weekend in FL! 😎🙏

  1. Congratulations to my Twinnie! This is so fantastic. Love the story. I can see colors so vividly. I can smell the salt in the air and hear the beach grass rustling on the dunes. Well done! Happy 4th! ❤️🇺🇸

    1. Thanks, Twinnie! I’m so glad you liked it, and thanks for the props! That area really is spectacular, esp in spring. We camped there years ago in our VW camper on our extendo road trip and I still remember the smell of coffee and bacon on a cool morning under the pines. The part in the story where she’s swept out to sea… I think I was recalling my surfing accident. Yikes!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend, my friend! Find a reason to get the jeep out! 😎🙏😉❤️

    1. Thanks, Tim! Very honored and grateful they accepted it.

I did have a great 4th, hope you did as well. The kids on the block gave us our own private fireworks show, and the dogs were quite calm thanks to some “doggy downers” from Pets Mart 🐶 💊 😂 I also saw the show from Nashville on ABC with drones and all kinds of special effects. Very cool! 😎🇺🇸

      1. My pleasure, Darryl. 😊 We had a wonderful 4th too, with fireworks by others to admire, also. We didn’t watch any television. I’m happy about the 250th birthday of America. 😍🙏

  2. A magical paradise landscape with lush green meadows, colorful flowers, crystal-clear waterfalls, a sparkling river, majestic mountains, and golden sunlight shining through the trees. Beautiful animals including deer, rabbits, horses, elephants, peacocks, butterflies, and birds are peacefully walking together in harmony. The sky is bright blue with soft white clouds, creating a calm and joyful atmosphere. Ultra-realistic, cinematic lighting, vibrant colors, highly detailed, dreamy fantasy style, 8K quality, masterpiece.

    1. Thanks, Violet! I’m so glad you enjoyed it!

I read yours… right off the bat, I was hooked… what happened to her? Loved the dialogue and the whole Faulkner-esque southern gothic Tobacco Road feel. Three generations dealing with issues as old as humanity. The photo prompt as a launching place was inspired, don’t know how you spun all that out of the photo… loved it! 😎👏

Thanks again for reading mine and the comments… much appreciated 😎🙏

  4. Thanks for the read. I hate leaving links but I thought this one was worth it. The only clue we have to what happened to her is in the prologue, which by the way was a response to a 100 word prompt and only later evolved into this story. Thanks Darryl 😊

  5. Fantastic story, Darryl. I couldn’t leave a comment since I don’t have an account, but I really enjoyed it. The setting was so vibrant and the story, so well crafted. I could feel myself sitting on that swing with the breeze in my hair. Congrats!

    1. Thank you! I’m so glad you enjoyed it! It started out as a monthly writing challenge where you’re given a picture and invited to write a story about it. When I saw the swing, that story popped into my head.

Thanks so much for reading and the kind feedback… very much appreciated 😎🙏

    1. Thanks, my friend! I was surprised, I sent it in a while back, thought they had passed as I never heard back. “Patience…” as my mom used to say over and over 😑😂 The email from them was such a nice surprise!

Hope your week is filled with cool stuff and people…and you have a chance to share your faith. You’re so good at that! 😎🙏🏄🏻‍♂️

    1. Pennie, thanks so much! I’m so glad you enjoyed it. I didn’t want it to come out too syrupy, so I thought the paranormal thing would balance it 😂

  6. This is what happens when a writer submits, waits patiently, and doesn’t give up, that surprise acceptance email is the best kind. Your willingness to send work out into the world and accept rejection until you get a ‘yes’ is admirable. The fact that readers loved ‘The Swing’ that it transported them to that moment and made them feel, says everything about the skill you poured into it. Excited for this milestone and what comes next.

    1. Wow, what a wonderful comment… thank you! It is a little daunting, wondering if your work will be accepted, and what sort of response it will get from readers. I’m glad folks seemed to enjoy it and when someone like you takes the extra step of writing with encouragement…well, it doesn’t get any better than that 😎

Thanks again for reading and the lovely comment… much appreciated 🙏
