Twilight

NTT poem

During Kevin’s NTT hiatus, I found one his pix from April 4 that I liked. He graciously offered to let me use it.

Shadows stretch longer and fainter

Eventide yields to soft night

Swift bird in flight ‘twas the daytime

Evening, e’er weeping for light

Horizontal rule

Lo! did my days swifter travel

Than did that quick bird on the wing

Tomorrow — morrow — I’d tell her

But life’s eventide now begins

Horizontal rule

Dreams become sorrowful longing

Regret ‘comes her desolate twin

Faint heart ne’er did win my fair lady

Oh! Tears fall o’er what might have been

Horizontal rule

  1. Beautifully Penned! The use of metaphor (‘Swift bird in flight’) and personification (‘Evening, e’er weeping for light’) adds depth and complexity to the poem.

  2. I can read this from different ages of myself, which is remarkable. In some ages the sisters are fine companions and in others, like demons scratching in the night. 🙂

    Thank you Darryl.

  3. Wonderful Poem Brother – Your words remind us of the importance of seizing the moment and not letting our dreams slip away in the shadows of regret.

    Happy and Blessed Thanksgiving.

    1. Thanks, Laura. Sometimes one of Mayor Gorilla’s pix is better suited to something short and impactful instead of a novella 😂 Thanks for reading and the kind words. Have a great turkey day, my friend 😎❤️

  4. This breaks my heart. I wonder if she had regrets, too? This reminds me. My grandmother was engaged to man who cheated. She broke it off and married another. 50 years later after my grandpa died he wrote her wanting to rekindle. She never answered his letter!
