What’s the thing you’re most scared to do? What would it take to get you to do it?
- Give my wife an honest answer when she asks “Does this dress make me look heavy?”
- Sit next to a guy on a plane who’s studying an Amway pitch.
- Answer the phone on a Friday afternoon when it’s a guy who I know is renting a U-Haul over the weekend.
- Follow my drunken buddy who’s lugging a five-gallon gas container to the campfire to “help it really get going.”
- Answer the door when I peek out and see it’s two young guys on bikes, wearing ties, in mid-August.
I might consider #3 IF it was a good friend and he was buying pizza and beer. The others, forget it. I’d beat Neo to the door.
Your list of scenarios is quite relatable and humorous! It seems like you have a knack for finding the lighter side in potentially awkward situations. I’m curious, out of all these, which one do you think would be the most challenging to handle? And what do you think it says about your approach to balancing honesty and comfort in social situations? 🚪🍕🔥

Justin, thanks for the follow-on question! I think it’d have to be #4 as that actually almost happened once and my buddy is very “spirited and boisterous” after he’s had a few. That involves not only his safety, but others.
1, 2 and 5, I’d handle through kindness, assertiveness, and a friendly discussion, respectively 😎

I can really relate to these. Especially sitting next to someone on a plane who will most likely not stop talking!
